2015 Belgium Thoughts
WILSON: It's hard enough when a race car driver dies. But, when it's such a great guy like Justin who everybody loved and never had a bad word to say, it hurts at your core.
THE BIG PICTURE: Nico Rosberg's slim chance, however small it was, to try and win a championship was essentially closed at Hungary with the lost points through no fault of his own. Fault or not, they were lost points which he may never recover from.
EVENT: A massive crowd. And nearly all of them also watched all the support races. This is racing passion. Not like those third world country events.
QUALIFYING: Grosjean does quite well then gets dropped five positions, Perez does surprisingly well, Raikkonen has no luck, Ferrari losses all momentum, and oh yeah Mercedes took the front row.
RACE: It's Spa. Who cares how the race went.
TRACK: That low level view of the cars pounding the curbs through Eau Rouge on the first lap was absolutely breathtaking.
START: Great for Perez, terrible for Rosberg, Vettel is happy, Bottas is not, and Hulkenberg and Sainz never got a chance.
HAMILTON: Back on form.
ROSBERG: Back to having no answer.
MERCEDES: Back to domination.
GROSJEAN: Fantastic weekend all around for Romain.
MALDONADO: While Pastor barely was able to get going.
LOTUS: But Lotus was still able to pull ahead of Force India despite...
FORCE INDIA: ...Force India's superb weekend.
PEREZ: Perhaps Sergio's best race of his career.
HULKENBERG: While Nico was left stranded.
KVYAT: Daniil has definitely answered his boss' demands recently which will...
RICCIARDO: ...definitely be putting pressure on the other Daniel.
RED BULL: Meanwhile, Team Whining Babies sends a letter to Renault informing them they are canceling their contract due to performance issues. Renault tells them, we don't think so.
VETTEL: Ran that tire a wee bit too far...
MASSA: Did not get the typical great start Felipe is known for.
WILLIAMS: You mean the tires are color coded so even a kindergartner can figure out which ones to put on? Well, we'll be damned...
VERSTAPPEN: A fantastic race especially considering where Max started.
MCLAREN: No progress after the long break. In fact, may have gone backwards.
RAIKKONEN: So much for all those rumors. Kimi is remaining at Ferrari. Now, if only they can give him a car that's reliable.
GP2: A riveting and wild feature race with a huge crash.
ROSSI: Won his second GP2 race and back in second in the standings. Is Alexander still a possibility for Haas F1 Team?
WORD OF THE WEEKEND: Tires.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND: 6 -- The number of consecutive poles by Lewis Hamilton, tying Michael Schumacher's record set in 2001.
HISTORICAL STAT OF THE WEEKEND: Guy Ligier passed at the age of 85. Though he competed in 12 Grand Prix races, he's most known for running an F1 team from 1976-1996. His team won nine times (six of them by Jacques Laffite), grabbed nine poles and took 50 podiums. Their last win was the surprising Monaco victory by Olivier Panis in 1996.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Daniil Kvyat gets quite excited after one of his late race thrilling passes, "That's how you f------ do it."
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Jenson Button states the condition of McLaren quite bluntly, "...embarrassing really driving round at the back."
SCHEDULE: From Spa to Monza. We love this stretch of the schedule.
