2015 Japan Thoughts
THE BIG PICTURE: Back to normal. As expected.
EVENT: The Japanese have always loved F1, even when their Honda is like a GP2 engine...
QUALIFYING: Rosberg gets his mojo back ... thanks to Kvyat's crash, Kvyat is very lucky, and the early end wrecks havoc on a few.
RACE: Suzuka has seen better.
TRACK: It does have the 130R.
START: Rosberg losses his mojo as Hamilton squeezes by, Ricciardo gets too good of a start for his own good as he tries to squeeze through, and Sainz gets squeezed by the Force Indias.
HAMILTON: Easy sailing once he showed off his teammate.
ROSBERG: Strong recovery after being schooled by his teammate.
MERCEDES: Back to normal. As expected.
VETTEL: Still showing off his teammate.
RAIKKONEN: At least Kimi stays with Ferrari for another year.
FERRARI: Start working on next year's car.
BOTTAS: Salvaged the race for Williams.
GROSJEAN: Welcome to Haas F1.
LOTUS: Now Renault.
ALONSO: Is Fernando heading to Renault?
BUTTON: He's staying in F1 after all. And even got a raise out of McLaren. He plays the game better than Alonso...
VERSTAPPEN: The second race in a row where Max fought his way from the back of the field into the points.
SAINZ: The second race in a row where his teammate showed no respect.
KVYAT: That qualifying crash was brutal.
ERICSSON: Nice job keeping the Red Bulls behind you for so long.
RED BULL: Team Whining Babies scored as many points in this race as they would next year if they are not competing -- zero.
STEVENS: That's one way to get air time for Manor.
ROSSI: Your team thanks you for not collecting Stevens and creating massive repair work.
WORD OF THE WEEKEND: Honor.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND: 41 -- Lewis Hamilton ties Ayrton Senna for career wins one race after Sebastian Vettel pulls ahead of them with 42.
HISTORICAL STAT OF THE WEEKEND: Hamilton won his first Japanese GP in his first year in F1, 2007. Then, he didn't win again until the past two seasons.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: We know Fernando Alonso plays the political game better than anybody in F1. But he may have gone too far or has the biggest balls in the world to actually say at Honda's test track with all the top brass in attendance, "GP2 engine! GP2 engine! It feels like it's GP2. Embarrassing. Very embarrassing."
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Lewis Hamilton on tying Ayrton Senna's career wins at Japan, "For me to win here at a race where I loved watching Ayrton drive and to match his wins, it doesn’t feel real at the moment."
SCHEDULE: Let's see how "successful" the Russian GP will be this year.
