2014 Canada Thoughts
THE BIG PICTURE: There may have been a chink in Mercedes armor and some light at the end of the Renault tunnel, but this is still the Silver Arrows titles to lose.
EVENT: A new 10-year agreement has been signed keeping one of the most popular venues on the calendar.
QUALIFYING: Whatever one's opinion at Monaco, Rosberg gets this pole fair and square, Vettel finally outqualifies his teammate, and Williams shines.
RACE: Another exciting race at Montreal. And of course, a few safety car periods.
TRACK: See above.
START: Hamilton has it ... then doesn't, Vettel takes advantage, and Bianchi and Chilton destroy their team.
RICCIARDO: One of the most popular victories in F1 history.
VETTEL: Well, Sebastian was smiling on the outside...
RED BULL: They keep Newey but it appears they won't have Newey 100%.
ROSBERG: Reliability (barely) gives Nico a decent points lead again.
HAMILTON: Lewis has come back before from this type of deficit.
MERCEDES: There is a reason why going undefeated is hard.
BUTTON: Jenson inherited a lot of spots.
ALONSO: Ditto.
FERRARI: They seem to be going backwards.
RAIKKONEN: There is nothing in his race for Kimi to write home about. Nothing.
HULKENBERG: For a moment, it appeared Nico would be the first time winner.
PEREZ: Sergio's infamous jinx nearly kills someone this time.
MASSA: That had to have hurt.
BIANCHI: From hero to zero.
CHILTON: Max's streak of finishing every single F1 race in his career comes to an end.
WILLIAMS: A lost opportunity.
WORD OF THE WEEKEND: Delightful.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND: 25 -- The number of consecutive races Max Chilton finished to start his career before coming to an end.
HISTORICAL STAT OF THE WEEKEND: Daniel Ricciardo becomes the fourth Australian to win in F1. The recently deceased Jack Brabham was the first (1959 Monaco GP) and has the most wins (14). Alan Jones won 12 times, Mark Webber nine times, and now Ricciardo. The 36 total wins puts Australia ninth on the nationality list, two behind Argentina. The United Kingdom leads with 231.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: "I'm a grand prix winner!" Yes you are, Ricciardo. Yes you are.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Daniel Ricciardo after taking it all in and still having trouble believing it, "This is ridiculous."
SCHEDULE: A return to a track with a different name. Will Red Bull shine again on its namesake?
