2012 Canada Thoughts
THE BIG PICTURE: Seven races. Seven driver winners. No dominate team or driver emerging. This is {we've run out of adjectives before F1 ran out of different winners} fun!
EVENT: Thankfully, the spoiled, communistic Quebec university students did not cause any real disruption to the event.
QUALIFYING: FIA forced Red Bull to fill in the holes on the floor and then the holes on the wheels. Then, Vettel promptly put a Red Bull on pole.
RACE: To pit or not to pit. That was the ultimate question.
TRACK: Is DRS really needed for this track?
START: Essentially, nothing happened. The top six maintained position, and the rest of the field behaved themselves.
HAMILTON: Despite not getting the pole, Lewis was fastest throughout the weekend. Thus, no surprise once he was in front, he dominated.
MCLAREN: They tried their best to screw their driver again.
ALONSO: How low can you go?
FERRARI: What were you thinking? Alonso had a guaranteed podium if you pitted him for a second time. Instead, Fernando was a sitting duck at the end.
RED BULL: You may have pitted Vettel, but it was too late to what should have been a podium finish.
GROSJEAN: When Romain finishes, which is a rarity, he finishes well.
PEREZ: Another podium for the upcoming Mexican.
SAUBER: May be the team which has the tire situation dialed in the best. If only their car was faster...
MASSA: Let's ignore his spin and near kiss of the Wall of Champions. Felipe had another strong weekend in a desperate quest to keep his ride.
ROSBERG: One more lap, and Nico would have been next in line to get Alonso.
SCHUMACHER: <BROKEN RECORD>Out paced by his less heralded teammate.</BROKEN RECORD>
WEBBER: A quiet weekend for Mark.
BUTTON: A troubled weekend for Jenson.
WILLIAMS: Has fallen off the radar since their surprise win.
PETROV: Vitaly's career is going nowhere on Caterham.
HRT: Brakes go boom.
WORD OF THE WEEKEND: Decisions.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND: 7 -- and the number keeps climbing.
HISTORICAL STAT OF THE WEEKEND: McLaren has now won three years in a row, giving them the most Canadian Grand Prix victories at 13 (Ferrari is second with 11). Their first win was the second year of the event in 1968 at Circuit Mont-Tremblant. Denny Hulme won He lapped the entire field, beating his teammate and team owner/founder, Bruce McLaren. Only six cars finished out of 20 starters.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Fernando Alonso on his team's strategy, "We tossed the coin in the air, and we waited to see the result, and it didn't work."
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Lewis Hamilton on this year's crazy season, "I think this is going to be normal for this season. It's great for fans."
SCHEDULE: We're going to predict the different driver winning streak ends at Valencia despite Schumacher, Raikkonen, and Grosjean having a good shot at winning a race this year. Who will be the first repeat winner is a prediction we don't dare make.
