2011 Korea Thoughts
THE BIG PICTURE: Teams will now start trying out different pieces and drivers getting ready for next year.
EVENT: Do the Koreans even care about this event? They apparently never touched the facility since last year. The grandstands weren't close to being full. Is this another Turkey (pun intended)?
QUALIFYING: The streak has ended. But, Red Bull still has three more races to break the season mark.
RACE: Absolute fantastic race long clean battle between Webber and Hamilton was the highlight of this race.
TRACK: Worst pit exit in F1.
START: Vettel don't need no stinking pole position, Massa drives like a man possessed, Webber is even more possessed, and Button is too conservative.
VETTEL: Incredible how pundits are now saying Sebastian isn't all that great. It's mostly the car. Did everyone suffer from Alzheimer's and forget what he did with a Toro Rosso? Or, how amazing he is in the rain? Or, how his teammate can't come close to him?
WEBBER: Mark had to have fun out there.
RED BULL: The inevitable Constructors' title is clinched. Adrian Newey, the master, does it again.
HAMILTON: Is Lewis the biggest head case in F1 today?
BUTTON: He might be getting into his teammate's head, but not today.
MCLAREN: Of all the driver egos and battles (Senna vs. Prost, Hamilton vs. Alonso) the team has had to deal with over the years, this challenge may be the hardest of them all.
ALONSO: Seemed to have trouble dealing with his teammate.
MASSA: Felipe was energized this race.
FERRARI: The experimental front wing (Alonso's car) for next year's car apparently worked worse than the current standard wing (Massa's car). Doesn't bode well for the Prancing Horse.
ALGUERSUARI: A fantastic race and weekend by Jaime. The inspiration of making sure he drives in Brazil worked.
BUEMI: Sebastien also had a very strong race.
TORO ROSSO: Quite a performance. Perhaps the talk from their drivers of having a great car next year is not all hyperbole.
ROSBERG: Though he convincingly beat out his teammate in qualifying, his tire strategy failed him.
BARRICHELLO: Shouldn't Rubens just retire?
KOBAYASHI: Typical Kamui race...
PETROV: Back to making mistakes. Apparently distracted by Alonso going way too deep into the turn, Vitaly decided to also go way too deep. Schumacher paid the price.
WHELDON: A two-time Indy 500 champion taken from us because of a silly-ass gimmick. Criminal!
WORD OF THE WEEKEND: Double.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND: 10 -- Sebastian Vettel becomes only the third driver (Schumacher did it twice) to win double digit races in one season.
HISTORICAL STAT OF THE WEEKEND: McLaren competed in their 700th grand prix, second only to Ferrari with 829. McLaren's first grand prix under then owner Bruce McLaren was the 1966 Monaco GP. The owner-driver lasted only nine laps dropping out with an oil leak.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Lewis Hamilton after qualifying, in a very drab, unemotional, monotone voice, "I am happy. I am very happy." Yeah, that was convincing...
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Fernando Alonso near the end of the race to his team, "I give up. I give up."
SCHEDULE: Onto the inaugural Indian Grand Prix ... but will everyone have visas to get there?
