2009 Italy Thoughts
THE BIG PICTURE: Down to the stretch run, and every race is becoming exciting in its own right, while the championship is becoming a team battle. Lots of reasons to watch the remainder of the season.
EVENT: Can't beat the tifosi for enthusiasm. Remember that Bernie, when we are in Abu Dhabi for the season finale.
TRACK: Trim the wings and get rid of downforce. This is all about speed!
QUALIFYING: Once again, another entertaining, and surprising, qualifying session.
RACE: An old fashioned Ross Brawn strategy session.
START: KERS was not necessarily an advantage when it should have been.
BARRICHELLO: Rubens sure doesn't get tired of winning. Especially when it gives him a shot at the championship.
BUTTON: That sound you heard was a huge sigh of relieve from Jenson. Sure, his teammate can still catch him, but at least he knows he can get back onto the podium.
BRAWN GP: So at what point does the team allow their drivers to fight it out amongst themselves? And at what point before then do you stop them from doing that?
HAMILTON: Every now and then, Lewis makes a driving mistake that makes you scratch your head.
RAIKKONEN: A lucky podium, but Kimi was right there to grab the opportunity.
FORCE INDIA: They continue to be a force for the second race in a row...
SUTIL: ...allowing Adrian to grab his first points this year.
LIUZZI: Vintantonio looked very strong. Although it appeared he was going back to another Toro Rosso, that wasn't the case.
FISICHELLO: Well, Giancarlo did better than Badoer. He got to drive for Ferrari. But was it really worth leaving a faster car with no promise for a drive next year? Apparently.
ALONSO: A slow getaway ended Fernando's race hopes before he got up to speed.
RED BULL: Not out of it, but running out of time.
VETTEL: Sebastian got a point. Big whoop.
WEBBER: Gee, thanks Robert.
TRULLI/GLOCK: If you're not sure whether Toyota will be back next year, why not battle it out amongst yourselves, consequences be damned.
GROSJEAN: Still having trouble with that first lap there, Romain, huh.
ALGUERSUARI: Toro Rosso got rid of Bourdais for this guy?
RENAULT: What originally appeared to be nothing more than a news maker has suddenly turned out to be a potentially devastating development.
PIQUET: The role model on how to destroy a livelihood in one easy step.
WORD OF THE WEEKEND: Crashgate.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND: 1 -- The number of pitstops each of the Brawn drivers made enabling them to finish 1-2.
HISTORICAL STAT OF THE WEEKEND: Monza has held more Grands Prix than any other venue. The first Italian GP there, which was the second Italian GP held, occurred in 1922, won by Pietro Bordini in a FIAT.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Rubens Barrichello stating the obvious concerning the one-stop strategy, "It was a great decision."
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Jenson Button joking about his relationship with his teammate, "I've put on a brave face lately, but I absolutely hate this guy! He doesn't know his ass from his elbow when it comes to racing cars!"
SCHEDULE: Will the heat and handling of Singapore bring Brawn back to domination?
