2004 Monterrey Thoughts
RACE: Was it just us, or was most of the excitement in this race fabricated? Or, maybe it was because this turned out to be one of those rare weekends where the F1 race was more exciting than the Champ Car race.
TRACK: This track has so much potential, but it is spoiled by a few unnecessary turns.
YELLOWS: What are we, back to throwing a yellow when somebody has a hangnail?
BOURDAIS: It would have been criminal if Sebastien did not win this race because of some funky pit rules.
JUNQUEIRA: A strong race, but behind his teammate.
DOMINGUEZ: On the surface, Mario deserved a podium finish. However, something is screwy when a guy comes back from the rear of the field by passing hardly anyone.
TAGLIANI: On the flip side of that, Alex completely deserved his point for most positions gained, as they were almost all due to actually passing people on the track.
CARPENTIER: A good solid weekend, and ahead of his teammate for once.
TRACY: Uncharacteristically a non-factor all weekend.
WILSON: No surprise again. What would surprise us is if Justin does not win a race this year.
GONZALEZ: Must have been the home crowd mojo that gave Roberto a little bit of speed. Just a little bit.
PHILIPPE: "I've earned my spot in the Champ Car World Series." You still haven't.
JOURDAIN: The odds on favorite to be the top Mexican turned out to be an afterthought.
VASSER: What happened to Jimmy this weekend?
SERVIA: Why don't they just name that wall after Oriol.
SPERAFICO: Not only can he not drive, he can't pit either.
MARQUES: Somehow, we don't think Tarso is going to feel very comfortable the next time the Safety Team comes to his "rescue."
WORD OF THE WEEKEND: Rules.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND: 94,514 -- Another successful race outside of America.
HISTORICAL STAT OF THE WEEKEND: For the first time ever, the Dale Coyne Racing team put two drivers in a top ten starting spot. That says something. Don't really want to think what it says, but it says something...
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Bruno Junqueira brings back a version of the old clown quote when discussing his displeasure over the new qualifying rules on Friday, "They might as well have Bozo the Clown making the rules."
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Whatever Tarso Marques said to the Safety Team after he was unceremoniously yanked out of the race.
SCHEDULE: Onto the only oval race of the season. Which is way too few by a whole heck of a lot.
