2000 Mid-Ohio Thoughts
RACE: It may have been a Penske 1-2 finish, but this season is a far cry from 1994.
TRACK: This sounds like an almost exact repeat of last year's
Mid-Ohio Thoughts -- Okay, many have complained
that Mid-Ohio's twisty, narrow circuit offers as many passing opportunities as say the Hungaroring,
but any road racing fan has got to enjoy watching even a single car fly around Mid-Ohio.
CASTRONEVES: Had the flu...
DE FERRAN: ...had a broken finger. Maybe that's the key to getting on the podium.
PENSKE: They may technically have Reynards, but they are virtual Penske's.
FITTIPALDI: Christian always seems to do his best when he comes back from an injury.
BRACK: Everyone is thinking Rookie-of-the-Year, but he also sits fourth in the
Championship.
ANDRETTI: Still in control as long as his future situation doesn't distract him.
CARPENTIER: Isn't it amazing how much better an athlete performs when a little contract
pressure is applied.
GIDLEY: Another race, another point. Now he needs to find the handle during
qualifying.
MONTOYA: Based on his demeanor in recent post-DNF interviews, there is no question Juan
is off to F1 next year.
FRANCHITTI: Two laps down and he spears Vasser? What is he, the new Paul Tracy?
BLUNDELL: Passed by Marques and a Swift. Perhaps the low point of his CART career.
HAAS: Will he be CART's version of Frank Williams -- losing the current champion because
he is unable, or unwilling, to pay his salary demands?
GORDON: As in Jeff. As in NASCAR. As in, I thought this guy was a goody-two-shoe.
INTERESTING STAT OF THE WEEKEND: Fourth fastest lap of the race? Tony Kanaan. No
kidding.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Perhaps the quote of the year -- Barry Green answering a young fan's
question about whether he prays before races, "Son, I have a two-car team. One of those cars is
Dario's, one of those cars is Paul's. I pray before every race."
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: The understatement of the weekend from Christian
Fittipaldi, "Team Penske has got their act together."
SCHEDULE: From Mid-Ohio to Road America. Two of the best.
