2000 Gateway Thoughts

RACE: Ignore the fact that only two drivers were on the lead lap. This was the best short oval race of the year with breathtaking battles throughout the field throughout the race, displaying exceptional driving. And with only one yellow flag.

TRACK: So long Gateway. We hardly knew ya.

MONTOYA: Just when you thought you couldn't possibly see better car control from this super driver. And guess what folks -- Juan has a bona fide chance to win the title!

GANASSI: Wonder whether Chip will see ever his two red cars grace the front row next year.

CARPENTIER: Patrick to team owners -- I can still drive!

MORENO: The oval meister that nobody acknowledges.

SERVIA: Will most likely get his first win by next year.

VASSER: Jimmy will remain in CART next year. You can take it to the bank.

ANDRETTI: One of the most crushing DNF's in Mikey's career.

TRACY: Another crushing DNF.

PENSKE: Decent showing, but I bet Roger wishes there were a few more natural road courses left on the schedule.

TAGLIANIA: Gee, Alex almost lost it again and ticked off yet another driver. But hey, he did make a great save.

PACWEST: Another rip roaring showing...

RELIABILITY: Another race with great reliability amongst the field.

THE GREAT STAT OF THE WEEKEND THAT JUST WON'T GO AWAY, THANKFULLY: Now we went from 17 points separating the top 6 to 19 points separating the top 6. And the drivers with the most wins, Castroneves and Montoya, sit in 7th and 8th, respectively. Just 3 races to go...

QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Juan Montoya on his luck this year, "I have given away races this season for one reason or another, so it’s nice to get one given back!"

QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Juan Montoya, again, on his practice crash, "You don't get scared when you hit the wall. You get scared when the car is pointing in the wrong direction!"

SCHEDULE: Indianapolis, and the return of the United States Grand Prix! Oh, that's F1. Okay, Houston, and ... ah, what the heck ... Indianapolis, and the return of the United States Grand Prix!
