2000 Chicago Thoughts
RACE: A great replay of last week's duel spoiled by electronics.
TRACK: Sure, it wasn't Michigan, but there were a fair number of position changes for
what most feared would be a no passing parade.
DA MATTA: Many have said that Cristiano is the most talented Brazilian in CART. Now
that he has his breakthrough win, it's time to prove it.
WELLS: Perseverance does pay off.
ANDRETTI: This was the type of drive, as well as three weeks, that wins championships.
DE FERRAN: Yet another quiet podium finish.
MONTOYA: If only laps led meant anything in the championship...
KANAAN: His best drive for Mo Nunn until the gearbox let him down.
JOURDAIN: One of his best drives in his career.
MORENO: Winning Cleveland appears to have been bad luck.
TOYOTA: Okay, now can they win on a road course?
PAPIS: You know the old saying, if it wasn't for bad luck...
CASTRONEVES: Talk about a flamethrower!
TEAM GREEN: Not again! Except this time Dario has to take most of the blame.
TRACY: Paul sure loves Chicago. Not!
ENGINES: When was the last time you saw so many engines of different makes go up in
smoke? Especially when it's not the first race of the season.
ABC: Does ABC doing the once unthinkable -- allowing a race running over to intrude on
the news time slot -- mean that they are serious about trying to keep the CART TV contract?
WIERD STAT OF THE WEEKEND: Every time Montoya has won a pole this year, it has rained
(or snowed) sometime on the original race day.
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Cristiano da Matta on the victory, "This is a great day for PPI
Motorsports, but this win is for Jeff Krosnoff."
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Cal Wells on watching his diminutive pilot hoist the
winning trophy, "It was just as tall and weighed as much."
SCHEDULE: Ahhh ... a one week break.
