2000 Nazareth Thoughts
RACE: I think we can chalk up the new aerodynamic package as a failure just like last
year.
TRACK: Combine that with a slim crowd despite a beautiful day, and maybe it is time to
(sadly) say good-bye to Nazareth.
DE FERRAN: How easy it is to forget that Gil can "put the hammer down" with the best of
them.
PENSKE: Congratulations, Roger. It's about time.
GUGELMIN: Surprise, surprise.
MONTOYA: Like Mo Nunn saw on that Barcelona test day, Juan's got the fastest hands
around.
SERVIA: Once he makes it past the first lap, he's not half bad.
TEAM GREEN: Best pit team in CART this year.
TOYOTA: What racing gods did these guys tick off? For the second race in a row, their
top driver dominates, only to have fate step in the way.
FRANCHITTI: Gee, it wasn't Servia this time.
FONTANA: Bring back Richie Hearn!
GARCIA: Slowest spin on an oval you may ever see.
GANASSI: Come on, Chip. Stop being such a baby. Have your drivers earn passes.
PITS: Seeing great pit work and watching a driver gain positions as a result of that can
be fun. Sometimes. But not when it becomes the norm.
SCORING: CART taking over the timing and scoring duties from Omega/Swiss Timing is
supposed to better, why?
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND: Roger Penske for the understatement category, "I think we're back."
QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND RUNNERUP: Chip Ganassi for the premonition category, "But hey, the
weekend is only halfway over for the Target team." Indeed it was.
SCHEDULE: This is like deja vu all over again -- if Milwaukee cannot be exciting, then
these wing package rules have got to be nuked.
