The Track

Cleveland Cravings
1911: Races run concurrently -- first one for under 300 ci, second one for under 600 ci.
1913: Harry Knight and his riding mechanic, Milton Michael, killed on lap 111.
1916: Driver Gil Anderson seriously injured and his riding mechanic, Bert Shields, killed
on lap 85.
1919: Drivers agreed to purse of 2/3 of the gate after deduction of $10,000. Winner's
share was six cents.
1930: Only championship race held on Cleveland-Akron track.
1947: Race shortened by 10 laps due to rain.
1983-Present (Mid-Ohio): Race start is on the back straight, so the actual distance is approximately
half a lap shorter than laps listed.
1984: Sullivan won by two laps over second place Chip Ganassi.
1990 (Mid-Ohio): Chicane leading into keyhole no longer used.
1997: Top 16 positions finish on lead lap.
1998: Top 12 positions finish on lead lap.
1998 (Mid-Ohio): Alex Zanardi's one point for a 12th place finish not awarded due to driving infraction.
1999: Race shortened by 10 laps due to the two hour limit as a result of a major downpour.
2001: Top 13 positions finish on lead lap with only one yellow during first three laps.
2003: First CART road race run at night.
2005: Race shortened by 3 laps due to time limit.
2006: Race shortened by 2 laps due to time limit.
